Polypropylene foam plastic

Polypropylene (PP) resin is characterized by abundant raw materials, light weight, superior performance/price ratio, excellent heat resistance, chemical resistance and easy recycling. It is the world's most widely used resin with the fastest growth in output. one. The main varieties of PD foam are polyurethane (PU), polystyrene (PS) and polyolefin foam. The PU foaming material has isocyanate residues harmful to the human body during the foaming process, and the foaming material cannot be recycled; the PS foamed product is “white pollution” to the surrounding environment because it does not rot and is difficult to recycle. The United Nations Environmental Protection Organization has decided to stop production and use of foamed PS worldwide in 2005. Foamed PP products have good thermal stability (up to 130 ° C) and dimensional stability of products at high temperatures, high toughness, tensile strength and impact strength, suitable and supple surface, excellent microwave Adaptability, degradability, and environmental protection have received much attention and become a good substitute for PS.
At present, some developed countries in the United States, Japan, and Germany are vigorously developing it as a green packaging material to replace foamed PS. At the end of last year, the University of Wisconsin successfully developed a new type of elastic polypropylene foam plastic. It not only has many advantages of expanded polystyrene, but also solves some shortcomings of polystyrene. The method for producing the elastic polypropylene foamed plastic is to first add a metal catalyst during the polymerization of the propylene molecule, so that the produced polypropylene molecules alternately appear in two types, hard and elastic, to form a block polymer, and then add a special The foaming agent is foamed to obtain a polypropylene foamed plastic having elasticity. Its hard molecular chain gives the material a certain strength and stability, while the elastic molecular chain gives the material toughness and flexibility.
The development of packaging materials and processing, as well as the new packaging design, have a tendency to promote “lightweight”, and foamed plastics are more conducive to the lightweight of plastic packaging. Now microwave ovens and microwave foods have entered people's family life, and cross-linked foamed PP sheet thermoformed food packaging containers have heat resistance up to 130 ° C (and foaming PS is only 80 ° C), which can be used in microwave ovens. Moreover, it is resistant to boiling water, has good high temperature stability, and is comfortable and soft on the surface; its thermoformed plates and bowls are superior to PE and PS in low temperature performance, so it has obvious advantages for disposable packaging. According to incomplete statistics, China currently consumes about 18 billion disposable tableware. As a substitute for foamed PS, paper tableware will bring greater environmental hazard due to the consumption of a large amount of wood. PP is easily degraded under the action of light, heat and oxygen. In the process of manufacturing PP products, if no additives such as antioxidants are added, PP products will age and degrade into particles in the sunlight for 15 days. Using the inherent characteristics of PP, disposable tableware made from foamed PP sheets is an ideal environmentally friendly tableware.
At present, it is estimated that 10 billion will be used in supermarkets for various fruits, cooked foods, semi-finished products, and clean vegetable trays. If half of these disposable tableware and trays are replaced by crosslinked PP foaming materials, more than 150,000 tons of PP foamed sheets are required. In addition, PP foam sheets can also be used as personal packaging for computers, cameras, glassware, precision parts, and consumables. Since it can be directly recycled and soft in texture without damaging the surface of the packaged material, the PP foamed material can replace the PS foamed material in the field of electrical packaging.
Although foamed PS has broad market prospects, the production and development of foamed PP has been a hot topic in the world. However, due to the crystallization characteristics of PP, the production technology of foamed PP sheets is difficult. Currently, only the United States, Japan, Germany and other countries can produce, and the industrial production of foamed PP in China is still in a blank. Therefore, it is imperative to research and develop foamed PP materials suitable for the market as soon as possible to realize its industrial production.
