ECLAC calls for strengthening China-Canada trade relations

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) called on Caribbean countries to learn from Brazil, Argentina, Costa Rica and Peru and strengthen trade relations with China.

ECLAC pointed out in the report "Latin America and the Caribbean under the World Economy 2008-2009: Crisis and Regional Cooperation Opportunities" that China's economy is still expected to grow by 8% in the context of the economic crisis, thanks to the Chinese government's economic stimulus plan and currency. Credit support program. China's large demand for energy, metals and minerals benefits resource-exporting countries, and Latin American and Caribbean countries should focus on Asia's ongoing production integration around China and actively participate in the value chain.

ECLAC said Latin America and the Caribbean should further attract Chinese investment and expand investment areas, not just crude oil, transportation and communications. In the previous quarter of 2009, Latin America’s exports to China fell by 4.1%, while exports to the EU and the US fell by 36.3% and 35.3%, respectively.
