The role of chiller filter and analysis of common faults

The purpose of the filter is to collect solid impurities in the refrigeration system and lubricating oil, to prevent system and capillary tubes, or to block the expansion valve, and to ensure that the piping system of the chiller is unblocked.

The drying filter for chillers is mainly composed of desiccant and metal mesh. Its outer casing is formed by a copper tube, and the inlet and outlet of both ends have the same diameter and different diameter. At the beginning is a thick metal mesh, and the end is a fine metal mesh. The internal desiccant is used to absorb the moisture in the refrigerant, ensure the smooth flow of the capillary tube and the expansion valve, and ensure the normal operation of the industrial chiller refrigeration system.

Whether it is an air-cooled chiller or a water-cooled chiller or a screw-type chiller, it is necessary to use a dry filter to effectively filter impurities in water or lubricating oil, so that the filter takes too long and is not regularly cleaned and replaced. It will cause dirty and blocked phenomena, which will affect the cooling effect of the chiller. Its failure is mostly manifested by the fact that the outer casing of the filter is cooled by warming or frost condensation, resulting in insufficient liquid supply to the evaporator.

If there is no temperature difference in the housing, the filter is completely blocked and the same as when the capillary is completely blocked. If the dry filter and the filter are slightly blocked or fully blocked, the main performance is that the refrigeration cycle condenser has no hot air discharge, the air outlet becomes normal temperature, and the compressor is running dull. If the air-cooled chiller or the water-cooled chiller or the screw-type chiller is stopped, the capillary/connecting pipe near the dryer is disconnected, and sufficient gas can be discharged on the capillary/connecting pipe side without the gas being discharged from the dryer, that is, the dryer is clogged. Conversely, the capillary or the connecting tube side is blocked.

If the filter is dry or the filter is clogged, the new filter should be replaced, and the vacuum should be filled according to the nameplate on the chiller and then the machine should be observed to ensure the normal operation of the unit's refrigeration system. Since most users directly cool the tap water and the unit keeps running for 24 hours, the operator should check the filter regularly to ensure that the chiller cools quickly and runs stably.
